Additional Information About Southgate Radiance Rhododendron

Southgate Radiance Rhododendron is a moderate growing shrub that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6A through 9A. It matures to an average height of 4 feet to 5 feet and an average width of 4 feet to 6 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides shade, morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun and grows best when planted in loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained or moderately drained. In the spring Southgate Radiance Rhododendron produces lavender flowers. The foliage is medium green in color. It attracts butterflies and visual attention and is resistant to drought and heat.

Southgate Radiance Rhododendron can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, in foundation plantings, as a background, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as an accent, in landscape beds or islands, to add property value, in small groupings or as a hedge and also in theme gardens, cottage gardens or shade gardens.

More about Southgate Radiance Rhododendron...

Noteworthy Characteristics

Another marvelous introduction from the Southern Living Plant Collection, the exciting Southgate Rhododendrons were bred to thrive in the extreme heat of the Deep South as well as other traditional Rhododendron areas firther north. The large bloom clusters appear as the spring temperatures warm. Very lustrous medium to dark green leaves are another feature of these amazing evergreen flowering shrubs. To top things off, the Southgate Rhododendrons are highly disease, fungus, insect and deer resistant. It's no wonder the Southgates are becoming a staple addition to Southern gardens.

Uses

Southgate Rhododendrons are a natural fit in any woodland garden or other partially shaded areas of the landscape. Use them as a specimen or in small groupings to mass plantings. They do especially well on fertile slopes with dogwoods, redbuds, native azaleas and other shade-loving plants and trees. The Southgates are so tough we have no problem recommending them as accents in home foundation plantings.

Culture & Care Tips

Southgate Rhododendrons are easy to grow provided they are planted right and in the right spot. Plant them in a partially shaded site with shelter from direct afternoon sun and well-drained, moist, acidic soils that are rich in organic matter.

Equally big, healthy, and husky, well packed. I really got my money's worth. The flowers were gorgeous, doing well in the yard so far.
